Leader has many meanings for Lakeshore junior Haley Thibeault. She's the lead off hitter for the top ranked Lancer softball team, and for good reason.
"Oh her strong suit is definitely at the plate," said Lakeshore head coach Denny Dock.
"Try to hit it hard and if it goes over that's a plus," said Thibeault.
She has six 'pluses' this season and leads the team in RBIs. The rest of the team follows her lead and not just because she's at the top of the order.
"I think one of the neatest things is how she's taken the young kids under her wing," said Coach Dock.
"I try to support especially the younger kids try to keep them up, keep their heads up," said Thibeault.
Haley was part of the team in 2011, the last time the Lancers were State Champs. So far, undefeated this season, she and her team aim to hang another banner on the fence.
"We have to work hard 100-percent of the time," said Thibeault. "We can't lose focus and we need to have the drive. We can't slack at all."
And though just a junior, she's already set to play for Western Michigan in college. So she'll have to continue balancing the books and the ball.
"Sometimes it gets a little crazy, but you got to have your priorities straight," said Thibeault. "School and softball, gotta keep on top of everything."
