For 18 consecutive seasons, the Notre Dame women's basketball team has played in the NCAA Tournament. However, Muffet McGraw's team will have a very different road to the big dance in this year. The ACC released the women's basketball schedule and the Irish will play seven games against NCAA tournament teams as apart of their 16-game league schedule.
“This sets up to be a very exciting and challenging schedule for us in our first season in the ACC,” Fighting Irish head coach Muffet McGraw said. “There are so many talented programs across the board in this conference and we’ll be tested each and every night. All of us associated with the Notre Dame women’s basketball program — coaches, players and fans — are looking forward to seeing some old friends and new faces during our initial year in the ACC, and doing our part to help make this the best women’s basketball conference in the country.”
The Fighting Irish will face Duke and Boston College twice during their inaugural ACC season, both home and away. Notre Dame beat Duke 87-76 this past April to advance to the Final Four. In addition, North Carolina, Miami, Syracuse, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech will visit Purcell Pavilion in ACC play. Conference road games include Maryland, Florida State, NC State, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest and Virginia.
The current ACC scheduling format features eight home and eight road contests, with schools playing every other institution once and two teams twice.
Notre Dame will offically join the ACC on July 1st.
