Some Elkhart students are helping the needy in Haiti.
The custodian at Riverview Elementary has led a relief project for four years.
This year, the school is raising money to install a new water well in an area where villagers currently have to walk 7 miles just to get water.
"It does help in a small way to a community that is about 6,000 people," said Monique Harris. "It is bringing home to them that God will answer their prayers."
"It is better to help people who are less fortunate, because in Elkhart, we have more materials than they do," added 6th grader Makhi Elbert.
The goal was to raise $1,000 at Riverview Elementary, and they are close to that goal.
Harris will fly to Haiti on Tuesday to deliver what they have.
