Time away from Notre Dame has not kept former quarterback Everett Golson from staying close to the FIghting Irish Football program.
"He's in contact weekly", Kelly said of his former quarterback Tuesday, who is serving a semester long suspension from the university for what Golson deemed a 'poor academic judgement'.
The fear among Irish fans all along is that Golson would not return to the university after spending a semester away. While Kellys comments are no guarantee of any future decision Golson has looming, it does indicate that the quarterback who led Notre Dame to the BCS national championship last fall remains invested in the program.
"(He's) catching up on what we're doing, game plans, staying connected. He's staying connected weekly from that standpoint."
Golson is in San Diego, working with quarterback guru George Whitfield Jr., who also coaches quarterbacks Cam Newton, Ben Roethlisberger and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.
"He's working hard", Kelly said of Golson's training regiment. "He's in a disciplined environment, one I'm very comfortable with."
