CHICAGO -

Former Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen signed with the Chicago Bears on Thursday.

Clausen announced the news via twitter:

“Excited to start a new chapter with the @ChicagoBears ! Blessed to have this opportunity and looking forward to getting started!!” Clausen tweeted.

The Bears have not yet announced the move.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Bears head coach Marc Trestman ran Clausen’s pro day at Notre Dame in 2010.

Clausen played in 13 games in his rookie season in 2010, making 10 starts. However, he completed only 52.5 percent of his passes, and threw 9 interceptions and only 3 touchdowns. The Panthers drafted Cam Newton with the No. 1 pick the following spring and Clausen hasn’t taken a regular season snap since.

Clausen suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder right in the preseason finale in 2013 and spent the 2013 regular season on Injured Reserve for the Panthers.

Clausen played in 35 games at Notre Dame from 2007-09, starting 34. He threw for over eight thousand yards and 60 TD passes at Notre Dame.
