Mar. 27: Outstanding Student Athlete: MC Marquette's Ryan Fazekas

For Marquette Catholic's Ryan Fazekas, basketball is not just a game. It is business -- the shoe business.
"He'll buy Jordans and then resell them for, like, four-times the price," says Marquette head coach Donovan Garletts. "I have no idea how he does it."
"They sell out right away," Fazekas explains. "If you get your hands on them, people want them and you're able to raise the price and make a profit."
For the past year-and-a-half, Zeke, as he is known to the Blazers, has turned his love of limited edition basketball sneakers into a highly profitable endeavor.
"40 to thousands of dollars," he says of the range of prices for shoes. "I've had shoes that have sold for $3,000."
He will not divulge exactly how much he has made but drops two pretty impressive clues.
"I'm not going to say the total, but I'll just say I bought a new Camaro from it," Fazekas says of his 2010 model ride. "Actually, I make more from it than some of the teachers at our school."
"He's a smart kid; he's got a 3.7 GPA at a college preparatory high school," says Garletts. "He's got a lot of things going for him. I just wish I had the sales background that he's going to have by the time he graduates high school."
The 6'8" shooting guard is money on the court as well. Fazekas leads state finalist Marquette in scoring and rebounding.
Last October, the junior committed to play his college ball at Providence. The Friars won him over with a late push and campus visit.
"I had 60 colleges in total looking at me," says Fazekas, who was initially leaning toward Michigan State. "For them to come in and just work their charm on me like that was amazing."
The savvy salesman sold by a good pitch.
Fazekas and the Blazers will face Barr-Reeve High School in the Class A state championship game on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:30 a.m from Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
