For St. Joseph's Tyler Beck, baseball is not just a spring sport. This is what he does twelve months of the year.

"I love it," Beck says of his lone sport. "It doesn't really get to me because it's more of a love, rather than just going out and play. It never gets old."

"Whether it's in the summer with his travel team [the Indiana Chargers], or in the offseason in the weight room, he'll be the first one in there," says Indians' head coach John Gumpf.

All the work has paid off for the pitcher and infielder, just check out the lofty goals he set for his senior season: a batting average over .500 and an earned run average below 1.00.

"I love those!" Gumpf says. "That's the type of kid he is. His goals are set high and he'll do everything he can to accomplish them."

With all the talent, the colleges came calling. Beck will pitch and play the field for Purdue next year.

"Purdue was always my number one, coming right off the bat," says Beck. "Mainly because of academics. I'm going into business management."

As a sophomore, Beck was on the first St. Joe team to win an NIC title. Last year, the Indians had their hearts ripped out, losing to Western in Regionals on a walk-off grand slam.
