Investigators say a 12-year-old South Bend boy could have been killed after pointing a pellet gun at a police officer.
It happened around 7:30 Tuesday night in the 800 block of South Meade Street.
Police say an officer noticed the gun in the boy's waistband and asked him to put his hands in the air. He then reached for the pellet gun, pointed it at the officer, and told her it wasn't a real gun.
The officer screamed for the boy to put it down and he dropped it.
Police took the boy to the Juvenile Justice Center.
