WSBT's Ted Land was live on the scene in Elkhart where a pickup truck slammed into an apartment house.

A block in Elkhart got quite a jolt Friday night.

Neighbors heard a really loud crash, ran outside and saw a pickup truck in someone's living room.

It happened shortly before 7:45 p.m. in the 1100 block of N. Michigan St.

Fortunately, no one was in the rental unit, but the driver of the truck was injured, taken away in an ambulance.

It appears the driver was heading down a side street and for whatever reason, didn't stop. That street led him right into the house.

The unit above the impact site was occupied. Those tenants were not there when the crash happened, although they were pretty shook up.

WSBT was told the truck crashed through the living room, ending up in the kitchen.

Emergency crews managed to pull the truck out around 9 p.m., taking part of the house with it.

Clearly, there was a lot of damage, busted water pipes, smashed walls, so the other people living there had to find another place to spend the night.

"It's a miracle (the driver) survived (the accident)," said neighbor Virginia Bush. "Because he's halfway through the building, almost into the kitchen, which is in the back."

"My aunt actually lives upstairs," noted Carlos Diaz. "So, I'm glad that everybody is safe and nobody was hurt, but it's a very big shocker to see that."

Over and over, people said they were really thankful there wasn't someone in the unit, watching TV on a Friday night in their living room when that truck came barreling through.
